Re-inkers and Alcohol

It's not a new technique, making neat backgrounds using alcohol and re-inkers, but it certainly is fun.  And this time I tried Sandy Hoefakker's suggestion of applying the alcohol with my Aqua Painter, which gave me more control (I like being in control! lol).  So here is my version of her lovely card.  I wanted to try for a landscape look, with green grass on the bottom and a blue sky above.  I hope you like it!

Swirled Snow

Hello!  I had the opportunity to help one of my downline (hi, Michelle!) design a card and learn how to use Heat & Stick powder the other day, and I want to share the card with you.  It's simple but in real life, the sparkle is just amazing. 

 

We used the Turquoise glitter from the Fine Cosmo assortment  and I can only describe the result as gorgeous.  We did use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to get the sentiment positioned exactly where we wanted it.  That little tool makes perfection possible without effort; I like that!  Every stamper needs one, for sure.

Hello again!  I'm sorry that I've been away from my computer so much lately.  I'm getting ready for a Holiday Fair that I'm participating in this Saturday, October 25th, and I'm starting to feel the pressure.  I'm making lots of neat stuff to sell, so if you are in the Decatur, Illinois, area and would like to drop in to say hello, here is the information.  It's being held at the Decatur-Macon County Senior Center at 1430 North 22nd Street, and there will be a number of vendors there with a large variety of products for sale.  The hosting organization will also be holding a bake sale and will have lunch items available.  Their proceeds support Literacy in the area.  It will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.  Let me know if you need directions!

Tonight I made a neat Christmas card and I want to share it with you.  Is it a little early for Christmas?  That depends on your perspective!  If you like to make your own cards (and trust me, people KEEP hand-made cards forever), it's the right time to be thinking about Christmas.  Here's the card:

 

Unfortunately, it's hard to see that the trees all sparkle, but in real life, they are absolutely beautiful and very wintry, frosty looking.  The background sky was made using a brayer after masking off the bottom part so it wouldn't get inked.  I think it looks like snow.  Well, that's what it's supposed to look like.  I hope you like it!

A little helpful hint:  I made a mask for the moon, using Post-It© notes.  I stuck the note on a piece of scrap cardstock, punched, then peeled the sticky note off the cardstock and adhered it to my card.  If you try to punch just through the Post-It© note, sometimes it will stick and you won't get a clean punch.

I'm back!

  I made a wonderful trip to Kansas!  Did you miss me?  I couldn't resist registering for the Kansas City Regional.  It was a great excuse to visit with friends and family.  I drove from Decatur, Illinois to Leavenworth, Kansas, where I stayed two nights and a day with my college freshman roommate (I won't tell you what year it was, though), then attended the Regional (which was fantastic; Shelli was there and there were lots of make & takes and wonderful demonstrations; it was a great day!), after which I drove to central Kansas (about another 250 miles) to visit my sister and her family.  I stayed through the weekend and Monday.  My sis took a day off from her job as a teacher's aid, and we had the whole day to ourselves.  What a joy!  I also visited my former father-in-law in Wichita before spending another night with my former roomie, then made the long drive home (about 400 miles in one day).  I was tired but it was a great trip.  I'll be sharing some of the projects with you soon.

First, though, I can't wait to share my latest creation with you.  I had resisted the call of A Cardinal Christmas, but finally succumbed after I kept seeing wonderful cards with that beautiful cardinal.  So here is my first effort with the set:

    

The red Top Note is cut from a lovely velveteen ribbon I found in my drawer.  Because the ribbon is about 2 1/2 inches wide, I placed two pieces on my Top Note die (113463 on page 28 of the Holiday Mini Catalog; if you haven't received yours, let me know and I'll send you one).  The Red Gingham ribbon (104827, page 187) hides the seam rather well, I think.  I stamped the cardinal with Jet Black StazOn (101406, page 193) and watercolored the image using an AquaPainter (103954 for the set of 2 ).  I stamped the greeting using my Stamp-a-ma-jig (103954 - an essential tool for every stamper who likes precise placement and/or likes to play around with images. It makes me look like I know what I'm doing! lol), then punched it out with the Curly Label Punch (part of the 112966 bundle on page 189 of the Fall-Winter Idea Book & Catalog).  I used my Versamarker (100901, page 193) to edge the punched piece, then sprinkled it with Gold Embossing Powder (109129, page 190).
